Experience
With over 14 years experience across clinical psychology, academia, global humanitarian work, conflict resolution, and international affairs, I bring a deeply informed, culturally attuned, and globally conscious approach to psychotherapy.
I am an expert in Third-Wave Contextual Behavioral Therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Inferential Behavior Therapy (IBT). My clinical work is grounded in the latest innovations in psychological science, and I integrate this with a deeply relational, somatic, and mindfulness-based framework. My approach is further informed by Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and Lisa Feldman Barrett’s Theory of Constructed Emotion—bringing together neuroscience, behaviorism, and emotional process in a cutting-edge modality. I also integrate the Chronic Distress Model, developed by psychology expert E. Paul Holmes—my mentor and clinical trainer—under whom I completed both my graduate and post-graduate clinical training through the University of Chicago.
In addition to my clinical practice, I serve as a lead psychology instructor at the University of Chicago School of Social Work, where I teach and train post-master’s level mental health clinicians. I’ve worked extensively with individuals from all walks of life, cultural backgrounds, belief systems, and lived experiences—both domestically and internationally.
My areas of specialization include complex trauma, life transitions, individuals and couples, global mental health, relationship dynamics, women’s mental health, depression/anxiety, political unrest, military service, and the psychological impacts of structural racism.
Spirituality and culture are integral to my perspective. I have studied and practiced Tibetan Buddhism for over 20 years, which profoundly informs my clinical orientation—especially in understanding the nature of suffering and compassion. I also have extensive knowledge of Islam, including a deep appreciation for the spiritual and psychological dimensions of Islamic practice. Simultaneously, I have worked extensively with idividuals navigating feelings of disconnection or tension with their religious or cultural identity.
Beyond clinical work, my efforts in the humanitarian and conflict resolution fields have extended to the countries of Georgia, Lebanon, and Nepal. I am also the co-founder and former Vice President of an international humanitarian organization that provided critical aid across the Middle East. This only furthered my deep understanding of the psychological and social impacts of conflict, displacement, and systemic injustice. In addition, I am well-versed in the post-Soviet space, with particular insight into the region’s cultural and linguistic nuances, as well as its complex geopolitical dynamics.
Above all, I aim to offer a therapeutic space that is inclusive, attuned, and transformative—meeting each client with cultural humility, intellectual depth, and an unwavering commitment to healing.
